It's buffered, but you can switch it to true bypass if you want (all hype, kids. just leave it buffered. it's better, for a tuner.) The only other thing I like better about the Boss TU-2/3 - it has two outs: One is affected by the footswitch, the other is bypass. Very handy, sometimes.
